Don’t Mess with What Works! October 9, 2011

Wow! It’s been a busy few weeks.  So I’ll post just a short bit for today, and more in a day or two.  The 40th Anniversary of Balloon Fiesta was great… but like I said, more in a couple of days.

I got a little overwhelmed with events of the last two weeks.  I had been going along all hunky-dory, as they say.  Then I took the last two tablets of my iodine supplement.  “Ok,” I thought, “No real biggie. I don’t think they were helping all that much anyway.  I’ll see how it goes without them for a week or so.”   I had thought that the recent burst in energy was a only a combination of the new thyroid medication I was on & the nutrition shakes I was taking.  I’m sure that was part of it, but I soon learned that one should not mess with a synergistic success!

Within about 3 or 4 days without my iodine supplement, I began to feel tired… very tired.  It was like someone had pulled the plug on my energy.  When I came home at the end of the day, I was toast.  There was no energy left for going on my walk or working with the pups on their homework!  Not only that, but my weight-loss made a plateau.  Danny & I talked about it and he got me a good, high-quality liquid iodine supplement from the health food store… the best they had.  We thought it might be a cheaper way to get my iodine.  But once we got it home and compared labels with my old empty iodine bottle, it was clear my old stuff was better.  My tablets had been far more potent and had other nutrients, as well.  That was it! I decided to place another order of my iodine supplement.

In the meantime, I took the liquid in a way to try to approach the potency of the tablets, but there was just no getting close!  Grand total, I was out of my Iodine Plus2 for almost two weeks!!  And I paid dearly for the lapse!!!  Not only did I have no energy, but things were not getting done around the house, I wasn’t getting my walks done, and my weight loss stopped.  I was feeling a little bummed too.

My Iodine Plus2 arrived Friday evening.  I started taking it again immediately.  I’ve been back on it a few days now.  I expect it will be about a week (maybe two) before I feel really good again, but I can feel a slight improvement now.  I will never let that happen again!  I learned a valuable lesson: Don’t mess with what seems to be working just fine.  You never really know what combination of things is working in your favor until you go screw it up!

I’ll keep you posted.  I have continued the shakes, but the iodine deficiency messing with my thyroid again, that made for an extra challenge!  I hope to be back on track as of this week!
Thanks for visiting!
Be Well,

Wow! Who knew?? I’m glad you didn’t go any longer before reordering. I really must get the name of that stuff!

Yeah!! It’s called Iodine Plus2. I provided a couple of links in the article. The 1st link to their info page about iodine deficiency and teh 2nd link to order the product. They estimate that a lot of the problems people are having these days… thyroid, obesity, depression and many other things maybe iodine deficiency related. It’s worth reading about it!
