It’s been way too long since I last updated things here! Wait… I almost always say that! How terribly predictable is that? No… really, things have been more busy than usual… Really! Ok, you want unpredictable? How about this… I got married! Didn’t see that coming, did ya? Yeah, well neither did I… at least not initially. But when you meet the right person, you just know it. Why waste time when life can turn on a dime? In a New York minute, everything can change and turn your life and everything you thought you knew, up-side-down and on it’s ear! Although I’ve already experienced that kind of upheaval in my life a few years ago, loosing someone dear to cancer, events of this year reminded me again of how precious each moment is. Danny has also been through that lesson, in spades!
Many of my friends, far and near, have asked how we met and then they are curious about more of the circumstances. So I shall tell you the story in installments, so as not to bore you or overwhelm you with too much to read in one sitting. Those of you who really know me, already know how I am about detailing a story. So get your cup of tea and here you go.
How We Met
Danny & I met in early 2008 in the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, Citizen’s Police Academy (SCSO, CPA) taught by Sgt. Joe Harris. But back then, I considered Danny to be “off-limits” because I knew he was involved with another gal, so I mostly tried to ignore him. Although we did talk a little on a few occasions during breaks or before class, I didn’t really know him very well and I suppose I just tried to keep it that way. I considered him to be “that good-looking, off-limits, guy with the striking blue eyes.”
I Knew Her All Along!
It wasn’t until earlier this year (2009) that I discovered I had known his girlfriend all along! Cathy was someone I liked very much and admired within our Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit. I had even hoped to get the opportunity to work with her on some unit details. It turns out that she and Danny had been together for several years and he had hoped to marry her. But last year in the autumn, she became very ill, which postponed their wedding. First part of this year, the diagnosis was cancer.
When I learned of her diagnosis, I sent out several prayers for her recovery, as did many of us. She seemed to improve for a short time, but then the cancer returned and she was taken from us this past August, 2009. At the time of her diagnosis, Danny was probably the furthest person from my mind simply because I had not seen him in almost a year, nor had I made the connection between them. It was not until a couple of days before she passed away that I crossed paths with Danny again and I learned of his connections to Cathy.
