Can you believe that February is almost over? It seems like I was just finishing my Christmas shopping last week!  Ginger is doing Ok.  We are managing some kidney damage, but she seems to be feeling fine.  But she is now on a special diet, that she likes.  I have been meaning to get on line and zip in a blog entry, but the days have seemed so short! But now that the days are gradually getting longer & the weather is getting warmer I feel like I might have a bit more time for other things I’ve been falling behind on… like the  occasional blog entry. Let’s hear it for the approach of Spring!  Paula stays kinda warm by the campfire. Happy New Year 2009! The coffee was fabulous!!

In the last couple of months, (thanks to having a terrific house-sitter who stays in my house) I’ve managed to make a couple of local trips. By local, I mean within New Mexico. Over New Years I traveled south and spent time with a friend in the Datil area.
We visited the V.L.A. and we did some hiking around on his Only a couple of the radio telescope dishes at the VLA, near Socorro NM. (Copyright - Paula L. High, 2009)land in the Forest and we drank some of his fabulous coffee in front of a campfire. It was a great way to ring in the New Year… the best one in years!

Since then, we’ve managed to fit in a few weekend days at the range. Over the Valentine’s/President’s Day weekend, we took a road trip, Quemado Lake, NM (Copyright - Paula L. High, 2009)explored some New Mexico highways and visited Datil, Apache Creek, Reserve, Quemado Lake, and the El Malpais Wilderness area. As always, I had my camera with me and I snapped a few photos here and there.

I learned a lot about the legend of Elfego Baca in the Frisco area (now known Elfego Baca Memorial -- Reserve, NM as Reserve). I snapped some photos of his memorial in Reserve.  And since that trip, I have learned that a family friend’s father actually knew Elfego Baca. I was so excited to learn of the connection. How cool is that? History can be so cool!

So that’s about it for what’s new here… that’s fit to print. I was recently at the amateur radio Winter tailgate (swap meet). Much to my astonishment, a fellow ham-radio operator there asked me when I
La Ventana Arch in El Malpais Wilderness (Copyright - Paula L. High, 2009) was going to add to my blog, as he was waiting to see what was new. I hadn’t realized that I had more than about nine or ten readers! haha

Happy belated New Year!
Be Well,
~Paula
